Family Devotion is an important aspect of a Christian family life. This is why our beloved Apostle Arsenio Ferriol often teaches us and encourages us to hold family devotion in our homes. And it should start from us. As 4th Watcher parents, we should faithfully obey this apostolic commission and make sure that our household is faithfully observing this apostolic teaching and way of life.

Here, we are going to share with you some importance and benefits of holding a family devotion regularly:

Firstlly, family devotion provides opportunity for us to pass on the apostolic teachings and doctrines to our children. There is no other legacy and inheritance we can leave to our children as great and as important as the apostolic teachings and doctrines for these will bring them to perfection (Colosians 1:28);

Secondly, family devotion helps transform our household into an apostolic household. We are to imitate the Goodman of the House in our family- most especially his life of prayer and devotion to the Word of God (1 Cor. 11:1);

Thirdly, family devotion provides a regular time for family members to come together to learn and grow in their faith. This helps to establish a routine of practicing faith as a family, which can be a powerful tool for strengthening family bonds and building a strong foundation of faith;

And lastly, family devotion provides a space for family members to share their joys, concerns, and struggles with each other and with God. This can be a powerful way to support one another and to seek guidance and wisdom from God. Family members can take turns leading prayers or sharing their personal testimonies, which can be a powerful way to connect with one another on a deeper level.

Here are some tips to make family devotion more meaningful and engaging:

  1. Choose a time that works for everyone: It is important to choose a time that is convenient for all family members to ensure that everyone can participate in the study and prayer meeting;
  2. Decide on a format: It can be anything from a mini reproduction of our prayer meeting in the church, or the traditional roll-the-verse and song or a simple exhortation of the Word of God followed by a prayer. Having a clear format helps to keep the meeting on track and focused;
  3. Assign roles: To keep the family devotion engaging and interesting, you can assign roles to different family members each week;
  4. Encourage participation; and
  5. Use resources: Use ICAD’s Family Devotion Online Resources for your exhortation needs and other tips.
